As a diabetic and a recipe creator, I am always looking for great diabetic-friendly products. When I find a product I like, I try to find new innovative ways to use products in my recipes. (Welcome Stur Product Review!) After trying Stur, I have a new go-to product that will be appearing as flavouring in some of my recipes.
What is Stur?
Stur is a water enhancer that comes in many flavours and is made with all-natural ingredients. It comes in easy-to-use liquid squirt bottles as well as a couple of flavours in powders.
My Favourite flavour of Stur for Water
If I am adding Stur to plain water, my favourite flavour is Coconut Pineapple. It is not too sweet and you can get a bold taste by using a lot of a hint with just a little squirt.
My Favorite Stuir to add to carbonated drinks.
I love to use Stur to add more flavour to sparkling water. I find flavoured sparkling water lacking in flavour, but when I add aStur I can enjoy a full-bodied taste. My favourite is the Strawberry Watermelon added to strawberry-flavoured Perrier. It is a real thirst quencher.
Adding Stur to Soda(Pop)
I like Cranberry Ginger Ale, but it is often only available at Christmas near me. I add some Pomegranate Cranberry to Sugar-Free Ginger Ale and can get my favourite flavour year round. Add a little Black Cherry Stur to a glass of Sugar-Free Coke for an elevated taste.
My favourite Stur to add to my recipes.
” So far” my favourite is the Coconut Pineapple. I have tried this flavour in a different brand and found it bitter, but this one is great! It makes an amazing flavoured glaze and is fantastic used in my Sugar-Free Pina Colada Muffins. I am still working on new recipes using Stur, so my favourite Stur for recipes just might change! Stay Tuned!
Something exciting I learned during this Stur Product Review.
Aside from being a product used to flavour drinks and a water enhancer ( that tastes great) Stur has helped millions of people stay hydrated without the use of sugar! Stur has also helped over 2000 people access clean water through their Thirst Project.
The Thirst Project is a youth water activism organization that helps high school and college-aged students build wells in developing nations. We take clean water for granted and any organization that shares for the good of others gets my patronage.
Where can I buy Stur?
It is sold in many supermarkets, some health food stores and low-carb stores. Of course, it is available online from Amazon as well as the Stur website. For the best selection of flavours, I recommend online from the Stur site. They also have a great story on how their product was developed and how they are giving back. (who isn’t inspired by that?) They also offer a discount coupon upon entering the site. I was pleasantly surprised by how many flavours there are, as I have only seen 3 flavours at my local grocery store.
What sweetener is in Stur?
Stur is made using natural fruit extracts and natural stevia extract among other natural ingredients. That’s amazing, especially if you are trying to avoid aspartame and sucralose.
This is an excerpt from their website outlining their ingredients
“Stur contains simple ingredients: Natural Fruit Flavor Extracts, Natural Stevia Extract, Natural Citric Acid, Vitamin C, white grape juice and Fruit and Vegetable Juice. Our Natural fruit flavors are extracted from real fruit. Our Natural stevia leaf extract is steeped using gently heated water – we do not use methanol! Our Vegetable Juice is added at trace levels to give color to Stur (so you know how much you’re adding). For example, our red coloring comes from beets. Stur liquid water enhancers are also certified Kosher by ok.org (Please note that the powder drink mixes are not Kosher). There is NO aspartame, NO sucralose, NO acesulfame potassium, NO red/ yellow/ blue dyes, and NO artificial flavors in Stur!“
Great Recipes that use Stur
What Stur flavours are available?
This is another favourite thing about Stur. They have so many great flavours to choose from.
- Lemonade
- Coconut Pineapple
- Fruit Punch
- Peach mango
- Strawberry Lemonade – with electrolytes
- Black Raspberry – with electrolytes
- Blue and Blackberry
- Lemonade
- Black Cherry
- Concord Grape
- Pomegranate Cranberry
- Strawberry Watermelon
Electrolyte Drinks for Diabetics
Both the liquid Strawberry Lemonade and the Black Raspberry contain electrolytes. There are also electrolyte powders in Lemon Lime and Fruit P{unch flavours. This is an amazing addition, as it can be hard to find sugar-free drinks suitable for diabetic sick days. You can easily make freezies and popsicles using these products (watch for recipes). This is super helpful when dealing with a diabetic child who is home sick and is a great addition to your sick day management plan.
Stur – It’s not just for flavouring drinks!
As a recipe creator, I always try to use products in multiple ways. I now use Stur to flavour, glazes and icings that I use on my sugar-free muffins and cheesecakes. I even made Pina Colada Muffins that are sugar-free using the Liquid Coconut Pineapple Stur and I drizzled some Coconut Pineapple Glaze over them for an amazing tropical burst of flavour! This is an awesome addition to my diabetic-friendly pantry. If you like soda, you can add the liquids to an unsweetened club soda, or even a can of Bubly.
After trying Stur and writing the Stur Product review, I am eager to see how many different recipes I can use this product in.. Watch for new innovative ways to use Stur!
