Any time I make some low-carb fish or diabetic-friendly crab cakes I always make some fresh Sugar Free Tartar Sauce to go with it. It just takes a few diabetic-friendly ingredients and tastes amazing!
Ingredients List
- Mayonnaise – 1/2 cup
- Freshly squeezed lemon juice – 1 tsp
- Vlasic Sugar-Free sweet green relish – 2 tbsp
- Prepared yellow mustard – 1 tsp
How to Make Sugar Free Tartar Sauce
This recipe is super easy. All you need is a mixing bowl and a whisk. Whisk all the ingredients together and then chill for about 1/2 hour before serving.
For a more classic look when serving, top with a few slices of green onion or a bit of fresh chopped parsley.
Ingredient Substitutions & FAQs
Lemon Juice – Feel Free to substitute with bottled lemon juice. Fresh lemon juice provides the best flavour but the recipe will still be yummy with bottled juice.
Mustard – if you have a preferred type of mustard such as Dijon mustard or grainy mustard feel free to substitute in place of the prepared yellow mustard. To keep the net carb nutritional value slow I substitute my shirt that is low in carbs. Honey, mustard or sweet mustard is are not recommended.
Mayonnaise – Some people prefer to use whipped salad dressing in place of mayonnaise. The recipe will still have good flavour and be a success. However, there is a substantial amount of sugar in whipped salad dressing. Check the carb content before making substitutions.
Freezing and Storing
store, your sugar-free tartar sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to five days. It is not recommended that you freeze tartar sauce as the mayonnaise tends to separate and break down when frozen.
