Pro Tips and FAQs
Substitutions
Jordan Skinny’s Simple Syrup
I like Jordan’s Skinny Simple Syrup, but many other great simple syrups are available that t are sugar-free. Some great brands that I have tried are Torani Simple Syrup, Wholesum Yum Keto Simple Syrup and Lakanto Sugar-Free Simple Syrup.
Sugar-Free Honey
In this recipe, I used Great Lakes Sugar-Free Honey. If it is not available near you there are other alternatives, such as Splenda Honey Syrup replacement, or Wholesome Yum Zero Sugar Honey. For your information, these products do or may contain sugar alcohols.
Stone Ground Mustard
Feel free to leave it out if you prefer to omit the mustard altogether. If you like mustard but prefer a milder mustard flavour, feel free to use yellow mustard or mustard with a more subtle flavour.
Xanthan Gum
Xanthan Gum is a thickener that is commonly used in low-carb cooking. Some suitable substitutions are unflavored gelatin and guar gum. You could also use cornstarch, but there will be a slight increase in the carbs.
Using Canned Pineapple instead of fresh
I have recommended fresh pineapple and pineapple juice, but feel free to substitute with canned crushed unsweetened pineapple. Omit the juice and do not drain the canned pineapple. If you find the glaze thick, add a little water or pineapple juice.
Storing and freezing instructions.
If you have made this glaze without using it on ham, you can easily free it until you are ready to use it. Store it in an airtight container in the freezer for up to 2 months. Refrigerate for up to 2 weeks.
