Pro Tips and FAQs
Alternatives to Flank Steak
Any lean steak that you can slice thinly will work for this sugar free beef and broccoli stir fry recipe. If you choose a denser cut, you can tenderize the beef but marinating it in a bowl of water mixed with baking soda. This is the best way to tenderize beef for stir-frying. Thinly slice and then soak in the mixture for up to 2 hours. Discard the marinade when you are ready to make the recipe.
Sweetener Substitution
I use Splenda granulated whenever possible as it does not negatively impact my blood sugar. I find that sweeteners that contain sugar alcohols cause my blood sugar to rise. If this is not a concern for you or you have a preferred sweetener, by all means, make substitutions that suit your preferences and dietary needs. Keep in mind that substituting the sweetener may change the overall nutritional information.
King Arthur Flour Substitution
If you wish to substitute the flour, you can use cornstarch, regular flour or Xanthan Gum. If using regular flour or Cornstarch, remember that the carbs will be increased. If using Xanthan Gum, use a small amount (2/4 tsp) to start. Xanthan Gum thickens as it cools and a little goes a long way.
No Wok? No Problem.
If you don’t have a wok, use a deep-frying pan, you may need to add a little extra oil and it may add more time needed to cook the meat. One of the benefits of using a wok is that it typically uses less oil and has a shorter cooking time.
Freezing and Storing
Freeze in an airtight container for up to one month.
When storing (not freezing), place in an airtight container and store in a refrigerator for up to 4 days.
