Peaches are one of my favourite fruits. I enjoy creating recipes using fresh peaches, but in the winter being able to enjoy those summer flavours without all the sugar and carbs is truly a treat. This Sugar Free Peach Jam tastes amazing and can be used as a topping or on toast. However you choose to enjoy it, you won’t regret it.

How to Make Sugar Free Peach Jam

Make sure your jars are clean and sterilized before starting. An easy way to do this is to place them in boiling water for about 30 seconds and then place them on a rack upside down and allow them to drain out. Use long-handled tongs or canning tongs to prevent scalding or burns.

  1. Before you get started making the jam, you need to peel and dice the peaches.
    • The easiest way to peel peaches is to submerge them in boiling water. Allow them to sit in the water for about 1 minute. Use a slotted spoon and remove the peaches from the water. Plunge them into a bowl of ice water. Let them sit in the ice water for about 30 seconds or more, and then remove them.
    • Slide the skin/peel off with your fingers and then proceed to cut them up, This method is super easy and works best if peaches are ripe. Overripe or underripe peaches tend to be difficult to peel.
    • To remove the pit, slice around the peach in the crease, touching the pit with your knife as you go.
    • Twist gently to release the peach from the pit.
    • Remove the pit from, the remaining half of the peach. This may not work if you don’t have cling-free or free-stone peaches.

2. Place cut peaches in a saucepan and mash with a potato masher. Leave some peach pieces so the jam is not too runny.

3. Add pectin, Jordan’s Skinny Syrup and Lemon Juice and bring to a boil. After boiling remove the pan from the heat and stir in the sweetener until it is dissolved.

4. Ladle fresh jam in clean jam jars. Be sure to leave about 1 inch of space at the top of each jar. This will allow the jam to expand while freezing and prevent the jar from cracking.

Pro Tips and FAQs

Using Alternative Sweetener

I use Splenda granulated whenever possible as it does not negatively impact my blood sugar. I find that sweeteners that contain sugar alcohols cause my blood sugar to rise. If this is not a concern for you or you have a preferred sweetener, by all means, make substitutions that suit your preferences and dietary needs. Keep in mind that substituting the sweetener may change the overall nutritional information.

Alternative to Sugar-Free Pectin

If you are not able to find Sugar Free Pectin, you can use unflavored gelatin. Use 1 packet for this recipe. You could also use Xanthan Gum or Guar Gum. Use a small amount to start such as 1/2 tsp as the jam will thicken as it cools.

Using Frozen Peaches

You can use frozen peaches instead of fresh, Be sure to allow ample time for thawing as using peaches that have been frozen can result in runny jam. Place frozen peaches in a sieve and drain off as much of the juice as possible. Move the peaches around in the sieve to release any trapped juice. You may need to add more pectin or thickener as the jam will be juicier.

Using Canned Peaches

Make sure that the canned peaches have no added sugar. As with the frozen peaches, be sure to drain off the liquid. If the canned peaches are packed in their own juice, feel free to use it in place of Jordan’s Skinny Syrup.

Omitting Lemon Juice

I have added a little lemon juice to help maintain the colour. If you choose not to add irt, expect the jam to be slightly darker. The taste will still be great though.

Storing and Freezing

This sugar free peach jam is intended for the freezer. It can be frozen for up to 6 months.

Store fresh jam in the refrigerator for up to 1 month.
